VenueLens Privacy Policy
Last updated: 9 October 2026
VenueLens is a browser extension that shows the rank of a paper's journal or conference on Google Scholar, dblp, PubMed and arXiv. It has no account and no server of its own, and it does not collect, sell or share personal data.
What stays on your computer
The ranking data (CCF, ICORE, OpenAlex, NLM) is built into the extension. Your settings, any lists you import, and saved lookup results are stored only in your browser on your computer. Uninstalling VenueLens deletes them.
The one thing that is sent: online lookup
Google Scholar often shows a venue name cut short (for example "2021 IEEE/CVF …"). To identify it, VenueLens can look up that paper on Crossref, a public database of scholarly publications. For such a paper it sends Crossref:
- the paper's title, year and first author's surname as shown on the page, or the paper's DOI;
- VenueLens's own contact address, as Crossref asks API users to identify their tool.
Nothing about you is sent: no account, no browsing history, no search terms, no identifiers. Crossref, like any website, receives your IP address with the request; see Crossref's privacy policy. Results are kept on your computer for up to 90 days so the same paper is not looked up again.
You can turn online lookup off at any time in VenueLens's settings. VenueLens then sends nothing at all.
What VenueLens does not do
- No analytics, tracking, advertising or telemetry.
- It runs only on Google Scholar, dblp, PubMed and arXiv pages, and reads only the paper listings there.
- It does not sell or transfer data to anyone, and does not use data for any purpose other than showing venue ranks.
Reporting a wrong match
The "Report a wrong match" link opens your own email program with a pre-filled message (the page address, the venue as shown and the paper title), which you can edit. Nothing is sent unless you choose to send that email.

- 页面上显示的论文标题、年份和第一作者的姓,或者论文的 DOI;
